Ingevity sponsors walking trail for Burke County Family YMCA

October 15, 2018

Ingevity presented a check totaling $50,000 on September 11 to Burke County Family YMCA. Monies donated by Ingevity will fund the development of a walking trail for use by residents in the community.

Once complete, the new facility will include a fitness center, classrooms, child care rooms, swimming pools and a lazy river. “This YMCA will transform and advance the Waynesboro community,” said John Nichols, plant manager, Ingevity. “By bringing more jobs and activities to the area, the center will support families and provide an additional avenue for employers, like Ingevity, to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our employees.”

“We are so excited that the new Burke County Family YMCA is finally becoming a reality,” said Danny McConnell, president and CEO, Greater Augusta Family YMCA. “This has been a great collaboration and partnership among area businesses and the Burke County Commission. The facility will benefit the Burke County community for years to come with a legacy of programs for a healthier community and nurture the development of future generations to come.  It’s our privilege to be part of this legacy and serve this community with everything the Y has to offer.”

The YMCA’s mission is to serve individuals and families through programs designed to build healthy spirit, mind and body. The walking trail funded by Ingevity will promote environmental sustainability as well as human health and wellbeing. The new YMCA will be built approximately two miles from the Ingevity plant which is currently undergoing a number of expansion projects in Waynesboro, Georgia.
